According to Trinity Bible Church's Statement of Purpose, the reason we exist as a church is "to glorify God by developing growing disciples of Jesus Christ throughout the earth ". If we are to take that purpose seriously, it is essential that our missions outreach be more than "just a program" that a chosen few zealots get excited about. Since "making disciples of all the nations" (Matthew 28:19) should ultimately be the aim of everything we do, every one of us needs to find meaningful and practical ways to be personally involved in reaching the world. Otherwise, as individuals and as a church, we will fail to accomplish the purpose for which God has us here. There are a variety of ways each of us can be involved:
[ AWARENESS ] —The starting point is to become more "tuned in" to what God is doing and what He wants to do in the world. Here are some suggestions:
- • Read the Bible with an eye for God's attitude about those who don't know
Him and who haven't heard the gospel message. - • Find out what God is doing through missions efforts. Read the missionary
prayer letters on the bulletin boards at church. - • Take advantage of missions-related books and other publications in the
church library.
[ PRAYER ] — We can't all go to the ends of the earth, but all of us can impact the ends of the earth through focused prayer. "Adopt" one of the missinoaries or projects we support and pray for them regularly. Read their prayer letters so you can pray for specific needs. As you watch the nightly news or read the paper about world events, think of the implications on God's work to reach people with the message of Jesus, and pray accordingly.
[ FINANCES ] —Reaching the world does not happen apart from God's people investing His resources in the task. Those who represent the Lord as missionaries at "the ends of the earth" need financial backing if they are going to be free to proclaim the grace of God to those who need to hear. A portion of the general budget is used toward this end, along with other gifts specifically designated for missions according to the needs. Write "MISSIONS" or one of our missionaries' name on the memo space of your check.
[ AVAILABILITY TO GOD ] —God wants each of us to follow Him. If every member of the body remains sensitive to His leading and committed to obedience -- whether that means physically going or actively supporting the effort through prayer and financial support -- if you are totally available to God, as a church we will not fail to accomplish our global purpose.
We strongly encourage each family or individual in the church to "adopt" one of these missionaries so that you can be more personally involved in reaching the ends of the earth through prayer, financial participation, and correspondence.
