JANUARY NEWS FROM THE BRAINS:
TWICE TO THANK YOU
A big thank you for your many cards, prayers and phone calls for our family in the death of my nephew Jeremy. The dust is beginning to settle in our lives, but many questions remain unanswered. The coroner's report has not been given to the family and so the cause of death is still undetermined. As a result, there are still many lose ends that cannot be settled especially with regards to financial closure. We rejoice at the generosity of many people in contributing to Jeremy's son's college fund. At last count there was over $6000 that had accumulated and gifts were still coming in. God is good! This generosity has been a strong statement of God's love and affection especially for family members that are not yet believers. God is good!
When my sister Sandy passed away in July 2007 it was evident to us that God had delayed our work permits to be with the family. God provided many opportunities to touch people deeply during that time of grief. Then after that valley experience we again began to wonder why the delay in our work permit. Now for a second time, God has show us yet another reason for our delay as we have appreciated greatly being here close to our family. Once again God has given many opportunities to offer a listening ear, to comfort and to just be close to one another when so deep a vacuum suddenly forms. God is exceedingly good! He is the author of not just space but also of time.
A big thank you to all of you who have been praying with us for our work permits! No, we have not yet received them, but we did received word that some progress has been made. On Monday, Jan. 28th Tim Barrow, Area Director for SIM in Southern Africa, had a very good meeting with the Mr. Kashea, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs and Immigration. In this meeting, Tim had two of the key church leaders of the Evangelical Bible Church with whom SIM works in Namibia. It was helpful for these two church leaders to be along as they also made a strong case for their partnership with SIM in Namibia. Mr. Kashea has only recently been given this responsibility of Deputy Secretary and so was not familiar with either SIM or our petition for a work permit. However, he extended every courtesy and said that it was not acceptable to have to wait so long for a response regarding a work permit. He promised to check into the paper work and said that there would be an answer in the near future. We continue to invite your prayer support that, Lord willing, the response will be a positive response and would come soon enough to permit us to be in Namibia by July or August.
ONCE TO REMIND YOU
We leave this Friday, Feb. 1 for South Africa to attend the Regional Council and Retreat with SIM and are due back on the 10th. Shelly's parents will be caring for Charity and Charissa for these ten days and we are sure that they will all survive happily. This is the first time that an ocean will splash between us and our girls and we are already feeling the empty nest syndrome. We are glad that it will only be for ten days.
Until His nets are full,
Calvin for the girls
