Warm greetings from Guam and TWR.
We don't send out many e-prayer letters in between our usual mailed letter, but here finally is one. It is actually a bit of a task to find time to write amidst our very busy schedule here. We were trying to come up with an adequate picture to express what our shortage of manpower looks like.
One word-picture was to consider that we have 5 transmitters and antennas. Our staff is at 6 people. Each transmitter is similar to an individual transmitting radio station. So with one extra man, it is like having one person per radio station here. Of course everything is within the same building, and we are all working together with the broadcast shifts and all the other work necessary to keep things running and the facilities taken care of. The hand of our gracious God is our real sustaining factor.
It is a real joy to realize that as we see the Lord sustaining His facilities here, we also have indications of how His word continues to go unhindered into the closed countries around us, bearing fruit that only He can bear. Let me share an interesting scenario with you. I had an opportunity to talk with a seminary professor last week, fresh from a trip where he was giving some pastors of house churches some training. One young pastor had mentioned his heritage of being a third generation pastor. His grandfather's brother was shot for being a pastor. This affected the family and members of the house church differently than the authorities had hoped. The event showed the faith of the pastor, which in turn encouraged the faith of those in the church, and three generations of the pastor.
The rainy season is upon us, and we have had monsoons and heavy rains for about a month. Praise the Lord we have no tropical storms or typhoons to date.
Our Station Manager is transferring to Singapore to take the position of Operations Director. Yes, our regional office is also in need of more workers, but it certainly seems beneficial to have our Manager move there and facilitate things at that central location. We have just had a short term worker arrive 3 weeks ago, and he should be trained to operate a broadcast shift by the time Chuck's transition to Singapore takes place. We also have a full time missionary arriving in September.
The time for one of my two trips to the HFCC coordination meetings is now upon us. I will be leaving for Spain on August 20th. Please pray that this will be a very productive trip. We have a lot of things on our plate this time, including a number of frequencies and times that we need to be sure we can facilitate for our broadcasts.
Shortly after I return from this trip, Kathy will be leaving for a trip to NH/VT. She will be tentatively in the states from Sept. 1st until Oct.6th. She also wants to spend a week or more with our daughter Crystal to hopefully be there for the birth of her second child.
Abiding In Him,
George and Kathy
