Dear Co-Laborers,
Warm greetings from Guam. We are very thankful to FINALLY get a chance to put our email prayer list together. (Please let us know if you note an error.)
The weather here seems a bit out of place for us 're-located' New Englanders. There should be the nip of cold and probably snow on the ground. Thanksgiving time brings the thoughts of the pilgrims and the first thanksgiving, and also of the location and the climate and the conditions.
However, even though we are living in a tropical climate, 90% humidity and rainy, the one thing that is the same is the reflection of heart that the pilgrims had. They had made the journey to the new land with the hope and desire of freedom to worship the Lord. They had lost many lives to the grueling conditions of the journey, and of the conditions of when they arrived on the shore of Cape Cod. But they had praise in their hearts for the Lord Jesus Christ, and even though circumstances were not comfortable, relationship with Him was evident, and the knowing of that brought the understanding of how He had provided for them. He was Jehovah Jireh – God my Provider.
Today, regardless of where we are located, we can lift up thanksgiving to our precious Saviour as well. We praise Him as well because we have seen and experienced Him as our Jehovah Jireh – He has provided. He has provided us with mission to proclaim His Gospel to the billions here in the Asia Pacific region. He has provided us with the means to do so. He has provided us with the support and prayers we need to be able to stand and press on in this ministry. He continues to open doors beyond our understanding, and compel us to walk through them…
We rejoice because He has given us a walk of faith. We rejoice because He continues to show Himself faithful.
We are praising the Lord for you. This time of thanksgiving to Him compels us as well to send a short note to you thanking you for being such a great part of our ministry. Thank you for allowing us to be hands to the ministry that you have continued to hold up. TWR really does stand for Team Work Radio as well as Trans World Radio. I think of Philippians chapter 2 and how that encourages us to be like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord and of one mind, and to be one in the likeness of Christ.
So thank you again for being such a great part of our ministry. We are so grateful for the time (though brief as it was) that we had the joy of fellowship with you during our furlough. Thank you so much for your encouragement.
Let me share just a bit prior to our quarterly letter that will be on its way very shortly. When we arrived on Guam, it was right back into the work of TWR Guam. We praise the Lord as the schedule for the next frequency period had to be put together that there was consistency and excitement about the programming as it came together.
As the Winter broadcast season began on October 28, we found ourselves in a spiritual battle being waged over national boundaries.
Our Burmese broadcasts were being interfered with on the frequency we were using. As I had opportunity to select a new frequency, the Lord opened the door for one that should be vital for ongoing seasons (PTL). However, in the process we also felt the weight of battle as we joined our Burmese national staff and listeners before the Throne of the Lord. The persecution in Myanmar is heavy - especially for believers in Christ. The authorities are trying to force them to become buddhists. Many believers have fled the country after being subject to poverty and even torture. With the protests at the end of September and the repercussions nation wide, the broadcasts of hope in Christ that we air are so crucial, yet we have an interference issue to work through. Please pray for Myanmar.
The second battle is waged over North Korea. We are most limited with what frequencies we can use to the North Korea target zone because of atmospheric conditions. You are probably well aware of the persecution of believers and the conditions for people in this country. We as well had a jamming situation occur to the frequency we were using for our Korean broadcasts. Jehovah Jireh provided a frequency for us that was almost too good to be true!! We have been broadcasting on this frequency now for two weeks. Please continue to pray for North Korea, and that the broadcasts will be clear and will touch many lives through the Holy Spirit.
There are other spiritual battles in this region as well, but they don't stand out at this time like these two do. We praise the Lord we can hear from our national workers and know how the ministry is proceeding. We also find a great need to be before the Throne of Grace for these dear people Jesus gave His life for, and are in the midst of suffering.
And in the midst of all this, let me share that we have two new doors that appear to be opening for broadcasting into China. Please pray that everything will fall into place, and that much fruit will be harvested as a result. I look forward to having the opportunity to share some of this with you in our spring prayer letter.
Yet another area of thanksgiving for us is that "Jehovah Jireh" has also brought Bob & Kelley Thorp to Guam as full time missionaries.
We have another couple who was just here for 2 1/2 weeks for a short term and to assess if the Lord would lead them into service as missionaries here as well. Please pray for them as they are seriously placing this in His hands. We also have two men coming for a 3 month short term assignment from January through March. Another young man is raising support to come out to serve for a year.
Oh how we need to place our trust in the Lord and rely on Him.
God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving.
