"I am working in the city. I am not able to go to church on Sundays because of my job. I feel empty in my heart. But I am able to listen to the radio. I listened to your first year of the 'Seminary On The Air' program. It makes my life meaningful every day. Thank you for feeding people who work at other cities like me. May the Lord continue to bless your work, to make it better and better, so that more people can be fed." - a listener to our SOTA broadcasts
Dear Co-Laborers,
We are excited about some of the news of the church in China. In January BBC had an article titled "Keeping the faith in China." The article concluded with "But Christianity is growing beyond its control." Our great God and Savior is continuing to build His body of believers in the midst of persecution. We continue to focus two-thirds of our programming from TWR Guam to China. TWR's Chinese internet programs have had an incredible result with a total of more than 735,000 hours of program audio sent out in 2007.
In December George had the opportunity to go to the World Media Forum in Kuala Lumpur with Dave Butler. He is TWR's Operations Director at our Singapore office. We were able to participate in these global meetings that emphasized the changing face of broadcasting in today's world. We were able to gather information about new technical platforms available in the region as well as get a very good perspective on the broadcasting environment in Asia. We can praise God for opportunities we came away with that are valuable in assisting us to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ over the air.
You will probably receive this letter as George is participating in this season's HFCC conference. Please pray for the frequency coordination to go well, that the Lord will protect our frequencies (His frequencies actually), and that it will be a profitable conference in keeping up with technological advances and in keeping the important relationships we have established.
We are not only aware that the Lord directs our coordination work and the outcome — we actually count on it! Shakti Verma from TWR India will be working with George at the conference, and will also be joining him for some meetings at our regional office in Singapore. One of their projects is to set up an RMS (remote monitoring system) while in Singapore. An RMS is a remote radio receiver that can pick up our broadcasts and can be accessed by computer.
We are delighted to share that we have two short term men here who are really digging into some work at the transmitter site. They will be here for three months. Lance Bredthauer is back for the second time. He is working on a huge project of an automation system for our transmitters. Jeff Strong is here for the first time but has already muscled right into quite a bit of the various work we have. He is working on quite a maintenance schedule right now with Jim and Sterling. Because January through March is our dry season, most of our big projects are done when the weather is favorable. It is great timing to have these guys here.
We would also like to ask if you would continue to pray for our co-worker, Matt Birnie, and his wife, Shilo, who are raising support as career missionaries right now. Pray the Lord will raise up the team of supporters they need 'holding the ropes' for their service. They are based in California.
Listener letter:
"I often listen to your programs and have deeply felt the effects of the way of Jesus
that you proclaim. I am greatly affected by the teaching of loving others as oneself, and
I have felt the special love Jesus has for me, giving me the spiritual life from Jesus.
It has caused me not to sin and I have protection from Jesus. From now on I must seriously
learn. I want to request for a couple of booklets that can help me proclaim the gospel to
sinners so that they can enter God's kingdom." -Henan, China
Thank you for your prayers and support in our ministry here with TWR.
