AUGUST 2008
"I really like Awake with the Angel, it has been very helpful to me. I believed in Jesus through your program 4 years ago. I am still very passionate for the Lord. My mother also has believed in God and changed. She is now serving the Lord at church. My little brother, my coworkers, and my classmates are also converted to Christians. Praise the Lord! Please pray for me; I wish to start a fellowship in my workplace so that more coworkers could get to know God, but I don't have much experience in leading a fellowship. Could you please provide me some resources? Thank you so much!" Listener from Guangdong, China
Dear Co-Laborers,
We are excited to have so much mail response from listeners. I am including a few listener letters
from China in our prayer letter.
As we send this letter to you, we are experiencing some challenges. The first challenge is that our
home computer had the motherboard malfunction. So some of the material and pictures I had planned
for this letter are not available until the motherboard is replaced.
The first part of July Charlie & Frauke Schaefer were here on Guam to conduct some team building
workshops for our staff. This was a very encouraging time as we were able to focus on God's Word and
also some more skills we can use. This is very important to me as we continue to face lean times with
staff and have two short term missionaries coming out to help fill in the gaps.
Our daughter, Amy, and Edison and family will be moving from Honduras to the Phoenix, Arizona area
around the time you receive this letter. As conditions had proved to get a bit dangerous for them, they
were able to get a flight out of Honduras and will be arriving to stay with our daughter Crystal and family
in Mesa for a few weeks while searching for a home. There is a lot of excitement with our families about
this. Amy already has two teaching jobs to choose from when she arrives.
Here is a picture of our current staff
at TWR Guam. (L-R)
Doug & Denise Gregson (and daughters Sarah & Joy)
George & Kathy Ross,
Jim & Doris McIntyre,
Phil & Gwen Binder,
Mike & Eli Sabin,
Kelley & Bob Thorp.
(Missing are Sterling & Gwen Ottun.
They will be in the next picture but
the Sabins will be on furlough.)
August is a busy month for us at TWR Guam. Mike & Eli Sabin begin their furlough at the
beginning of the month. A short term missionary couple, Dave & Patti Olson, will be here
to fill in for them while they are gone. Dave & Carol Butler (Dave is our regional
operations director) will arrive just prior to the Sabins' departure. Dave will help in
our manpower shortage for almost a month and also assist us in looking at resources. Another
short term couple, Ron & Sally Dick, will also join us for 4 months beginning in August.
Both Dave and Ron are electrical engineers and will be working on our transmitter automation
system as we move to getting (at least part of) our broadcast shift to be un-manned.
Please pray for George's next frequency coordination trip. This takes place during the last
week of August. The HFCC conference he will be working at is in Moscow. His co-worker,
Shakti, from India will be attending with him too, as well as Bern Schraut from TWR Europe.
Please pray for successful negotiations and meetings.
This testimony just came to me today. It is talking about one of the broadcasts we do to an
orality language group in China:
I got a chance to do some follow-up in an area that received radios last month. I talked
with one man and he was able to tune in the broadcast without any difficulty. The first night
he listened, he only listened by himself. He was excited because he knew that his mother would
be excited to hear something in her own language since she could not speak Mandarin at all. The
next night the two of them listened together. She really enjoyed the music in the program but
was more excited that she understood every word of the broadcast. Knowing that other people would
want to hear as well, they invited their entire village to listen. So, for the last week or so,
60 people have been huddled around that small radio listening to the broadcast!
I would like to close with these letters from listeners in China. The locations, topography,
and lifestyles are all quite different. Thank you for your part in this ministry to them.
Please pray that many more will come to know our loving Savior.
Praise the Lord! With a little set of radio and I was brought back to our Heavenly Father.
Now I am bathing in the abundant and sacred love of God. ...TWR is my honourable teacher, my good
friend and is like the holy angel bringing to me the Message of God. Most of the programs of
pastors can be listened to repeatedly. This is very suitable for who are as simple-minded,
unintelligent and absent-minded as me. Praise the Lord! I know that this is all God's
grace. Praise be to God! Combining Bible reading and listening to the Gospel is the way
to an abundant life. This is also an effective way to accept the Word of God. Praise the
Lord! The programs of TWR show the way to life and are never boring. They are what we
welcome and love. Listener from Gansu, China
Our shortwave broadcasts don't just stop in China; they continue the "hops" beyond.
I am a Christian and living happily in God's grace. Today I accidentally discover this
broadcast program as my spiritual food, I am thankful. I am studying in Finland, I have a
girlfriend, but she does not believe in God and we have been arguing about this. This is a
burden and I think God's kingdom is coming. I hope she can repent and enter the kingdom of
God, but her heart is very stubborn. Therefore, please pray for us that we will love God with
all our heart, our mind, and our will. -Chinese listener in Finland
