What is a Group Workcamp?

The Group Workcamps Foundation is a non-profit, interdenominational, Christian volunteer home repair organization headquartered in Loveland, Colorado. They coordinate intensive one-week mission trips of service. Work-camps offer individuals and youth an opportunity to perform hands-on home repair projects for needy residents, many of whom have seen their homes damaged by natural disaster or just years of "can't afford to fix disrepair."

For each work-camp, up to 400 individuals and youth from around the country spend one week in a particular community performing these repairs. In the summer of 2002 an anticipated 18,000 young people and adults will participate in 50 group workcamps in communities across the United States and Canada. More importantly, they grow in Christian faith through service.

Why Our Community?
There is a great need to help senior citizens, handicapped and low income families in the Kearsarge area with much needed home repair.

When was it?
July 14-20, 2002

What Was Done That Week?
Free material and labor were provided to residents for roofing, painting, porch repair, wheelchair ramps and other external and internal repairs. The Workcamp brought in about 12,000 hours of volunteer labor – worth at least $80,000 to the community.

Who did do the Work?
Approximately 400 youth and adults from across the Unites States, along with local volunteers. All involved had an amazing opportunity to see God's hand at work.

Where did 400 teens and adults stay?
The Teens and adults stayed at the Kearsarge Regional Middle School. Different classrooms were set up for the Teens to sleep in (seperate quarters were provided for male/female). They had use of the school locker rooms for showers and the school cafeteria for breakfast and dinner. Each night there was a program in the auditorium consisting of music and drama. The week long theme was "Ignite the Light". The teens had a "prayer room" where they could write requests for prayer. Fellow teens would pray over these requests for them.

How is the Camp Funded?
Each youth and adult workcamper contributes a portion of the funds they need for camp. In addition, the Annie E. Casey Foundation has made a $15,000 contribution to cover the local workcamp expense.
