Trinity Bible Church and Casey Family Services in partnership with Group
Workcamps brought 400 teenagers and adults to the Kearsarge region to improve the homes of local residents during the week of July 30 – August 5, 2006. The Workcamp was housed at Kearsarge High School in Sutton with Workcampers sleeping on the classroom floors, eating in the cafeteria, and enjoying evening programs in the gym. We thank the Kearsarge school district for opening up their facility for this week!
Fifty to sixty, elderly, handicapped and/or low-income residents received free home repairs from the volunteers. The Group Workcamps Foundation is a Christian, non-profit, interdenominational organization headquartered in Loveland, Colorado, whose sole purpose is to bring Workcamps to communities throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. 2006 is Group Workcamps 29th year of service. Over 200,000 volunteers have improved over 30,000 homes. The co-sponsors are pleased to offer this service to the communities of the Kearsarge Region.
Repairs offered through the Workcamp included porch and wheelchair ramp construction, interior and exterior painting, weatherization and other work. The work was done by teenagers with adult supervision and assistance.
Over 400 Participants travelled to New Hampshire from all over the Northeast and Mideast:
- 12 Work Campers from 1 church in Iowa
- 29 Work Campers from 1 church in Illinois
- 24 Work Campers from 1 church in Massachusetts
- 77 Work Campers from 4 churches in Pennsylvania
- 24 Work Campers from 2 churches in Connecticut
- 106 Work Campers from 5 churches in New Jersey
- 118 Work Campers from 6 churches in New York
